Renfrewshire offers the best of both worlds.

With a population of around 178,000, this area in central Scotland offers close-knit communities in its villages, tranquil country surroundings and great transport links to nearby Paisley, Inverclyde and Glasgow city centre. Not to mention plenty to do for families, whether that’s playing in the great outdoors, shopping or eating out.
Whether you’re looking to escape from a big city, purchase your first home or next family home, or you’re hoping to downsize to a lower maintenance property, Cala’s range of new homes across Renfrewshire means you could enjoy a fresh start here and explore all the area has to offer.

Here’s why we love Renfrewshire:

Countryside tranquility
Renfrewshire offers the ultimate escape. The historic village of Houston, home to our Woodend Green development lies on the bank of the River Gryffe surrounded by leafy countryside. It has an older town centre in a designated conservation area with a variety of local amenities.

Houston is perfect for countryside walks with the family, with Ardgryffe Park only minutes away, providing space for sports and recreation with city life feeling a million miles away.

Erskine also offers young or growing families countryside tranquility. Located on the banks of the River Clyde, our Gilchrist Gardens development isn’t far from Boden Boo, an attractive two-mile woodland trail for walkers, cyclists and dog-walkers, meanwhile Castle Semple Country Park has a wide range of watersports, walks and wildlife.

With so much nature located on your doorstep, Renfrewshire is the ideal place to settle down if you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors.

Well-connected commuters
Both Houston and Erskine are perfectly placed to allow homebuyers semi-rural settings whilst still having easy access to Glasgow and beyond. Erskine is just five miles from Paisley and 15 miles from Glasgow city centre via the M8 motorway with easy access also to Gourock and Greenock. Across the Erskine Bridge takes you further afield to the likes of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs.

Houston’s Woodend Green development is only seven miles from Paisley and 16 miles from Glasgow, making Houston a great base for exploring Renfrewshire and beyond. Not to mention Glasgow Airport being just 10 minutes from the development, perfect for holiday season.

As well as great commuter links for those with a car, Renfrewshire also has fantastic public transport links by train or bus, so there are a range of options to suit all commuters.

Steeped in history
Renfrewshire can record human settlement as far back as the iron age but became a prolific place to live in when the Romans occupied Britain. It is believed to be the birthplace of William Wallace who led the Scottish wars of independence in the 1200 and latterly became an industrial stronghold related to shipbuilding.

Both Renfrewshire towns are steeped in history with the nearby Castle Semple Loch and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park offering ideal locations for country walks. Paisley, which is not far from either development, also has its fair share of historic landmarks at the heart of the city, such as Paisley Abbey, the Paisley Museum, the Thomas Coats Observatory and Paisley Town Hall.

Idyllic amenities
There are plenty of local and specialist stores, not to mention larger supermarkets, in and around Renfrewshire.

Glasgow is easily accessible, so buyers are spoiled for choice. Braehead Shopping Centre is just a short drive and offers not only high-street shops but also entertainment and XSITE at Braehead has a variety of restaurants, as well as a bowling alley, cinema and crazy golf – perfect for the little ones and big kids.

For those looking to shop local, Bridge of Weir, Kilmacolm and Linwood are just a few of the many towns and villages within easy reach that boast a wealth of shops, amenities and attractions.

In Erskine, Gilchrist Gardens is extremely close to Bridgewater Shopping Centre offering supermarkets, restaurants, a doctors’ surgery, a dentist and library.
