Ed Vass gives us insight into life as a Land Buyer.

1. Can you tell us about your career background and experience?

Prior to joining Team Cala in July this year, I was working at Vistry Group for around four years, also as a Land Buyer. Alongside my role, I’m studying for an undergraduate degree in Urban and Environmental Planning at London South Bank University to further my knowledge and skillset. I’m going into my final year this month and look forward to graduating next summer!

2. What interested you in pursuing a career in land and planning?

I’m really interested in placemaking and the idea of creating new communities as well as bettering existing ones. I love that, in my role, I get to see the creation of new places from the very start. The land buying process is challenging but in a good way – I really enjoy having the opportunity to work on a variety of schemes at different stages of their development.

3. What excites you most about joining the Cala SHC team?

Cala is a fantastic business with a great reputation in the housebuilding industry. In terms of the South Home Counties (SHC) team in particular, they have a wealth of experience – I’m already learning so much from all of them.

4. Which projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on the delivery of our phase at L&G’s new North Horsham development, helping to drive the delivery of 193 new houses and apartments. Overall, the development will include 2,750 new homes, shops, community facilities, outdoor space and cycle paths. Alongside this, I’m focusing on proactively sourcing new land opportunities across the South Home Counties region, particularly in our target areas of East Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

5. What ambitions do you have for your new role at Cala?

I’m excited to help Cala achieve its growth targets as best as I possibly can. We have a goal of contracting four new sites before the end of the year, with capacity for creating 30 homes or more, and I hope my role can help Cala to achieve this. Alongside this, I want to continue learning every day and progress throughout the company.

6. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy being active – I’m a keen cyclist and golfer. I also support Harlequins Rugby and enjoy watching them play (win!) on weekends.
