Both showhomes brimming with the latest interior design trends and inspiration, designer Felicity Stevens from Haus Interiors has created beautiful modern family homes with a stylish yet functional feel.
We asked Felicity how she created the interior design for the showhomes and how to best make spaces work for busy family life.
“Now we’re all spending more time at home, maybe even working there, it’s important to ensure that spaces are designed intelligently to meet the discerning needs of a Cala homeowner. Our homes are our sanctuaries, and we want people to walk in and immediately feel excited at the possibility of their potential new life there.
“We wanted each to ooze luxury and quality, while bringing to life multi-functional family spaces where people can thrive whether they’re relaxing or working”.
Mood boards were developed for each home and for the five-bedroom Solville, Felicity drew inspiration from the abundant green spaces and wildlife areas on site, using a colour palette of earthy green tones set again natural woods for the downstairs living area. Finishes are matte or satin throughout for a subtle, classic look and bespoke-made artwork also reflects the development’s natural surrounding environment.
The Solville’s first defining feature is its wide and expansive hallway, which is light and bright leading straight ahead to the open plan kitchen and breakfast room, then through to a family room opening straight onto the garden via stunning bi-fold doors.
Felicity says that a “relatively neutral palette takes centre stage here in what is set to be the heart of the home, where a family will come together to cook, play, eat and work or throw the bi-fold doors open and let the outside in”.
As any parent knows, storage is key for any family, and this area is cleverly designed with ottoman-style benches which can hold anything from toys and boardgames to table linens and cookbooks. A quality shaker style kitchen and large feature solid wooden take centre stage in the kitchen and breakfast room while a comfortable green velvet sofa offers the perfect place in the family room to kick back and enjoy a film together when the weather isn’t behaving.
Felicity’s approach for the separate sitting room was to create a sanctuary for the adults of the house to enjoy relaxing amidst a contemporary and stylish interior featuring light and comfortable sofas and seating in addition to a bespoke media unit.
“I wanted to add a touch of opulence to this room so it presents a haven for parents who might choose this area to entertain in or just relax when the kids are in bed. To create this we’ve brought in brushed silver and chrome accessories and luxurious soft furnishing to achieve a comfortable space perfect for putting your feet up after a long day.
“One of my favourite features of downstairs is the study, where I’ve focused on delivering a professional office space which still has the comforts of a home with high-quality stylish seating and accessories sourced from independent craftspeople. Again, this area features natural tones on the walls and the floor to ceiling shelving we’ve installed, and is an inviting standalone space to get some work done.
“Moving upstairs the bedrooms all have a distinctive look and feel, with the children’s rooms incorporating a palette of soft pinks, light greens and grey furnishings to create a perfect place to sleep and play. We’ve chosen to style the fifth bedroom as a bespoke ‘Hobby Room’, which still features a practical day bed for guests but also carves out space with a white work bench for crafting and hobby work – which can then all be stored away neatly.”
Felicity continues: “The Hurwick has been designed to give buyers inspiration for setting up a home, perhaps for a slightly younger family, and features a large lounge and kitchen/dining area on the ground floor.
“I’m in love with the colour palette I’ve incorporated throughout these spaces, which is a combination of navy blues, creams, greys and gorgeous terracotta which really brings warm to the scheme. Statement brass and brushed gold lighting and fixtures round off the look perfectly.
“Moving upstairs I’ve tried to bring a luxury ‘hotel’ feel to the first two rooms, with a ceiling high two-toned headboard in the master bedroom with weathered oak and brass bedside tables and matching dressing table.
“The second bedroom brings in some of the grey, green and terracotta colour palette from downstairs and is complemented with a statement gold and glass ceiling light.
“Finally The Hurwick also shows a younger child’s room where we’ve used paint creatively to create a ‘zone’ for the bed in a beautiful blush pink, which is an ideal match for the white wooden furnishings and draws the eye to this focal point in the room. A comfortable child-sized reading chair and creative shelving creates the perfect space for your little one to thrive.”
“Overall the vision for both showhomes was to ensure a timeless interiors scheme accompanied the large and spacious rooms and flexible floorplans, while ensuring each felt on-trend and reflective of modern family life. I think visitors to the development will be excited and inspired by the community being created at Fernleigh Park.”
